Style in the Heat

  • Blog Post

Let’s be honest, dressing for this weather can be a bit of a problem. One moment it’s blazing hot, the next it’s windy with a splash of surprise rain. If you’ve ever left the house in sandals only to wish for a raincoat by lunchtime, you’re definitely not alone. So, let’s talk about how to dress for both the heat in the city and those days when the weather seems to be having a full-on identity crisis. This is the only summer wardrobe makeover you’ll ever need!

Work outfits during these hot days

Choose light, airey and breathable fabrics such as cotton, linen or bamboo. These materials let your skin breathe and don’t cling. Typically when the sun shines we enjoy wearing light colours. This season, however, brown is bang on trend and can look super chic! Although the aim is to wear light, floaty clothes, remember you’re in a city / town, not by the beach – that’s a whole other wardrobe. It’s not a good look sitting on the tube or bus on your way to work but looking like you’re heading for the beach!

Loose and flowing is this summer’s super chic

A linen or cotton floaty dress, a wide leg palazzo pant co-ord, or even a relaxed cotton t-shirt with bermuda shorts looks cool and helps to keep your body temperature down. If you’re not one to enjoy wearing dresses due to your thighs rubbing together (you’re not alone!), wear fine cotton shorts underneath.

Protect yourself without overheating

A wide-brimmed hat or baseball cap, and of course sunglasses will all help. And for those days that start cloudy and windy only to change half way through to searing heat, bring along a lightweight silk scarf that can be used to keep warm or to shield from the sun. Then fold away when not needed.

Comfy footwear is crucial

Sandals, sliders, and breathable sneakers keep your feet from overheating but make sure they’re comfy! Painful feet can ruin your day. The sandals to the right, whilst they may not be to everyone’s taste, are the comfiest shoes I have ever worn. I’ve been stopped multiple times asking where they’re from! If you go for a flat pump or trainer, footsie socks are a must.

So, whether it’s the kind of heat that turns cars into saunas or a day with every season rolled into one, dressing smart doesn’t mean sacrificing style. Choose comfort, good fabrics, comfy shoes, prepare for weather surprises, and most importantly, wear what makes you feel fabulous!
